Jordan Wieben is an illustrator, author, and theatre designer based in Alberta.
He is a graduate of the National Theatre School of Canada in Set & Costume Design. At NTS, Jordan specialized in costume design, which engaged his interests in characters, their personal histories, and their relationships. He also worked as an archivist at the Sundre Pioneer Museum and the Montreal Holocaust Memorial Centre, where he was responsible for documenting the history of artifacts and their owners.
Both of these experiences led to an interest in the emotional and spiritual connection people have with their clothes and possessions.
To explore these themes outside the context of theatre, he began writing and illustrating short stories. He attended the Syn Studio Art Academy in Montreal to improve as a visual storyteller.
In 2015, he became the Artistic & Administrative Assistant at Imago Theatre, where he designed marketing materials for the website, Artists in Residence, the Artista Mentorship Program, and Her Side of the Story.
Currently Jordan lives in Calgary, where he creates “theatre on paper” in the form of writing and illustrating picture books. He is a member of the Society of Children’s Books Writers and Illustrators. His stories are focused on struggles of visual identity, cultural narratives, and marginalized voices.
